Charitable Status

November 2017
We are no longer signing up new company members as we are currently in the process of converting the company to a charitable incorporated organisation.

August 2017
We are pleased to announce that the Charities Commission has accepted our application to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and Joseph Cowen LLC is now a registered charity, with the current Directors as its first Trustees.

The next step will be to transfer the assets of the CIC to the new charity. We will need the approval of Joseph Cowen company members to do this, and will seek this in October, when we reconvene for next season. Over the next three months we will be winding down the CIC, and hope to complete the change by the end of the calendar year.

Thanks to all who have been involved in this process, in particular Geoff Taylor our Company Secretary, and Ken Young our Finance Director.

Our Mission Statement

The Joseph Cowen Lifelong Learning Centre enriches lives by providing outstanding opportunities for lifelong learning for people in the North-East.

Who is, or was, Joseph Cowen?

The CIC is named after the eminent Newcastle MP and philanthropist Joseph Cowen the Younger (1825-1900) whose statue stands on Westgate Road.
